Temple of St. NikolayTemple of St. Nikolay of Khamovniki district located at L’va Tolstogo st., 2 and at the Timura Frunze st., 1 – elegant, modest but amazing church of XVIIth century. Carved elements of church’s decoration are combined with waves of “kokoshnik” lasting to five-domed top incrusted by colorful glazed tiles. High pins of five gilded domes and one of the most high hipped bell towers of Moscow - make special swan bearing of the church. There is additional storey under octagon of bell tower to make sound spread better. There are 32 small windows in hipped roof made for the same purpose and for additional decoration. Bell tower is similar to the front mast of the “ship” composed by all buildings (temple- refectory – belfry) – it is realization of axled plan from XVIIth century. Fence with two gates was installed at the beginning of XIXth century. Delightful assembly and each separate detail are the same beautiful as work of masters from khamovny weavers. In honour of people’s protector Nicholas wonder-worker they have created temple which was wooden at the beginning end then made of stone. Outstanding beauty of the temple is symbolizing beauty understanding of workers. Gorgeous dresses from weavers were supplied to Tzar’s court and court circle. Foreign ambassadors were amazed at patterns and quality of fabric. Nowadays these things are value of museum. |
