State picture Gallery of Ilya Glazunov

Moscow State picture Gallery of People's Artist of USSR Ilya Glazunov was founded by Government of Moscow and by People’s Artist of USSR Ilya Glazunov who has gifted to the capital of Russia his painting and graphic masterpieces becoming basis of gallery collection.

Uniqueness of gallery is formed by vast world of figures made by painter in the second half of XXth – beginning of XXIst centuries. Exposition consists of more than 700 items – monumental historical canvas such as “Eternal Russia”, “Great experiment”, “Mystery of XXth century”; elegant-lyrical works about love and life of human being who was lost in big modern world (“City” cycle); portraits gallery of outstanding foreign and Russian figures; theatre decorations for Russian classical operas; architectural sketches for interior of Grand Kremlin Palace, Embassy of Russia in Spain. Big part of exposition is devoted to painter’s artworks to the books of great Russian classical writers – Pushkin, Lermontov, Blok, Alexey Tolstoy and…especially genius novels of Dostoevsky. Cycle “Kulikovo field” restores feats of arms of Russian ancestry. Gallery has masterpieces of Russian iconography, wooden sculpture, castings, furniture of neorussian style – rescued from destruction by Ilya Glazunov at the times of atheism godlessness.
